Musée Stendhal, Grenoble, visit
Stendhal of Grenoble.
Dr. Gagnon's apartment is located in the historic centre of Grenoble. It is a museum site, featuring a permanent and temporary exhibitions. Its architectural design and museography were revamped in 2012 reintroducing the apartment belonging to Stendhal's maternal grandfather to the public, a location where the heart and mind of the future writer were awakened.
The apartment includes a large Italian salon with a cabinet of natural history, typical of the apartments of the enlightened bourgeoisie in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, a summer cabinet of (or study) dedicated in its time to study and reading, a terrace featuring a pergola overlooking the city garden, a guest room called "Romain Gagnon". The latter forms the hub of the Stendhal Museum. It received the Maison des Illustres (Distinguished House) title in 2011 awarded by the State, and the collection on show has been certified as Musée de France.
